Seven-time Emmy Award winner (former writer for Sesame Street, Nickelodeon, PBS...) - and Regional Tony Award winner (La MaMa ETC, NYC) - Ian Ellis James aka William Electric Black is presenting a one-man, family friendly, show inspired by the famous musical. “Electric’s West Side Story (On The Lower East Side),” the brain-child of the well-known playwright, director, and performer, is his take on the famous play, its place in history, role today, and issues it presents. An entertaining, innovative, and immersive tour de force, Electric’s production presents his view of the classic show and story in which audience members become part of the performance by eating twinkies, snapping their fingers, dribbling a basketball, answering trivia questions about the classic, and even singing along. Inspired by John Leguizamo’s one man shows, Electric becomes an array of characters from the original West Side Story, mixing improvisation with writing and audience participation.
